[IS,P] Yes indeedy. As for domination, I agree we tend to play the majority of moves, but we don't do this in any other game, and those who play along with us have not made any objections that I've noticed (at least, not recently...). Work? A four-letter word, if ever there was one!
[UK] Do you think we sacrifice quality on the altar of quantity? I'm undecided - but there's rarely a 'LOL' (probably because nobody can post a word in edgewise). I rather liked Softers' A-Ha Day's Night.
A Bridge U2 Far [IS,P] You could well be right - and you certainly are about Chalky. In my defence, as I said above, this is the only game I do this in, and I really appreciate the opportunity to do something approaching 'quickfire'. In addition, there are a number of games across the morniverse that I "don't get" or find too complicated, so I just leave them alone. Whilst I'm not saying that this justifies altering the gameplay here, I don't see games being tinkered with to draw in the greatest possible number of players. It's always nice to find a popular game, but any that is 'active' - certainly to this extent! - should surely exist on its own merits.
Having said all of that, I remember that I got over-enthusiastic with a previous film club game on MCiOS, and that got closed down as a result, and I was rather embarrassed that things ended up that way. I naturally don't want to see the same thing happen again.
Toyah Toyah Toyah [UK] Well, my big games are this one and 201: A Google Odyssey in Another Place. I don't play more than a couple of moves in straight MC games 'cos these new rulesets are a joke - everything was more straightforward in my day. Nice "Bridge U2 Far", btw.
[IS,P] Phil's is the first we've had to pun a film title, I believe: a collision between the film Three Men and a Baby, and Aerosmith's hit "Dude Look Like A Lady". Of course, I could be horribly wrong about this...
Sacha Distel Momma the Babysitter's Dead [Phil] No problem. Nobody said 'stick to artists', but people are more likely to have heard of artists perhaps than individual tracks.
[Phil; IS,P] Just seen the blunders in my post above - I meant to describe the combo as Phil has done (but got myself tangled), and I've realised I should have said "the first we've had to pun a song title. *slaps forehead*
[UK] I make it a rule to always Wiki before displaying my ignorance on here - i.e. I Wiki and then display my ignorance on here. Power Station = Robert Palmer (he of the Sledgehammer) + Two Duran Durannies (John and Andy Taylor) + some bloke out of Chic (Tony Thompson) on drums. doesn't sing: "get it on, bang a gong, get it o-on".
[UK] Goodpi Lenin is a great film. dy by dx men stars patrick stewart but you won't get it unless you did calculus at school. Where e=mc^2 is where eagles dare. They're not funny if you have to explain em.
[UK] Flame trees of theta (Thika); Integrate/Mile (8Mile); Sin City (obviously). I was simply going to post "cos(π/2 - City)" but thought it might be a bit too cunning. I note you coped easily with "theta, mu and bob too"...
[irach] I don't think you know how irritating that is? I can't even be bothered to read through your posts to see if any of them are amusing. Hence, I can't be bothered to try and think up any of my own. Another player and I did that once (at least we took turns) and filled in a page or two of a game in half an hour. That was about 10 years ago. I cringe with shame now when I think of how crap an experience that must have been for everybody else.
For my sins, I tend to play first thing in the morning, which is from around midnight for most of you, and maybe add the odd comment at around 4pm (about 7am for you guys) so there is little interaction with other players. It is a bit disconcerting to arrive at work and find that there have been 200 moves since I last posted. Having said that, I know I am guilty of posting long lists of moves but it does tend to be the norm in this game. Should we maybe look at limiting the number of consecutive moves to 3 or 4?
Other notable offenders to the general 'only post one or two' rule are myself and UK as, although we do 'only post one or two', we play ping pong during office hours and by the time irach or nfras get there it's thirty or forty new ones for them. We're trying to find somewhere else to play so we don't piss so many people off but no luck so far with the Lockisseum...
[IS,P!] Perhaps the four of you could meet up and do it like a panel game. I'd be willing to chair... sounds a good concept. Maybe Radio 4 would be interested.
[All recent disputants] I'm as guilty as the next man of overposting (as long as the next man's I Say, Porter!). I do confess that the huge blocks by irach & nfras are a little overwhelming on first sight, but as this is a fast moving game only at certain hours of the day, I can appreciate the frustration of sitting on a raft of good moves with the possibility that you'll never get the opportunity to play them all 2 or 3 at a time. Having said that, let me just add: Doc Savage - Man of Cu6Sn5
[UK] Have you actually seen that? Let's recap: We've had Butchers, Greengrocers, Bakers, Weightwatchers, Police etc., Publicans, Interior decorators, Gardeners, Chemists, Takeaway/restaurant, DJs, and Physicists mathematicians and the like. How about The religiously inclined in all their guises.
